"There’s something magical about that first real glimpse of autumn, when the landscape begins to shift from summer greens into rich yellows, oranges and golds.
In this iconic piece of Llangollen, I wanted to capture that change through the River Dee — the clear blue of the sky reflected in the water, contrasting with the warm autumn leaves floating across its surface. The rocks break through the reflections and lead the eye upstream towards the village, where the church spire rises above the trees and the old stone bridge marks the point where the river flows onwards.
People chatting beside the river bring a little life to the scene — a quiet, everyday moment amongst all that autumn colour. I particularly loved drawing the scattered leaves in the foreground; little flashes of orange, yellow and gold carried by the water, signalling the arrival of a new season." - Beth
