The name Aberdaron means 'mouth of the Daron river'. Steeped in Welsh history, Aberdaron was a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, when pilgrims followed the coastal paths to Aberdaron, this would be the last stop before taking the perilous sea crossing to Ynys Enlli, also known as Bardsey Island. The communal kitchen where pilgrims could claim a meal in Aberdaron is called Y Gegin Fawr, and it survives today as a delightful tea shop.
